Ara Hi.This is Ara(One of the students at Encare). We often talked about the topic of communisim. Anyway how are you doing? Long time no see, Jason. In fact, I am doing a volunteer work at hospital with happy feeling. However, I am in trouble to hear the native speakers conversation. I think it is so difficult to understand. If it is possible could you advise something about this? For example why cann't I catch their conversation? How can I improve my ability? And so on. Thank you so much. Have a good weekend. Ara
I live with my wife, Brigitte, and my two children, Oliver, who is six years old, and Lola, who is two. We have a house in a quiet neighborhood next to a park (the park has a stream running through it and ducks that swim there!). We used to live in Brooklyn, but it got too crowded and expensive. I've taught English as a second language for nearly ten years. It's my passion! I enjoy using games, movies, music, and real life situations in my lessons. For me, the most important thing is to understand each student's individual learning style, interests, and goals for the future; then I can help the student relax and have fun learning. I got my BA in psychology from Vassar College and my MA in TESOL from Hunter College at the City University of New York.
I've taught ESL and trained teachers at Embassy CES, Long Island University, Bergen Community College, Bloomfield College and Encare, a school that I co-founded with one of my former students. What I love most about teaching is creating my own materials. Right now I'm really excited about the hip hop music and card games I've developed to teach hard-to-learn vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.
